San Jose International Airport is approximately 4 - 41/2 hours from the resort and Liberia International Airport is approximately 90 minutes from the resort. The roads along the coast are dirt roads but not a problem if you take your time. There are many good car rental companies who will deliver a car to the airport (you should make arrangements in advance). You can also arrange for a commuter flight on Sansa to Nosara (30 minutes south/ December through May) or Tamarindo (45 minutes north) or Liberia (90 minutes north) and Poas will bring a car to the airstrip. Directions from San Jose using Tempisque Bridge: (4 1/2 hours)
At San Jose International Airport take the freeway (Pan American Highway # 1) to Puntarenas, follow the road to Limonal ath the Shell Gas Station turn left and follow signs for Tempisque Bridge/ Ferry, After 27km you will cross the new Tempisque's Bridge and follow until you arrive at the main road, Take your right turn to Nicoya- Santa Cruz. At approximate 1km. After the last enterance of the town of Santa Cruz (Crossing small Bridge) You'll find signs: Veintisiete de Abril - Junquillal-Tamarindo, Turn left (Route 152 or Route 160 signs may vary) follow Small Signs - To Playa Junquillal & Tamarindo. Contine on this road until you get to Veintisete de Abril (27th of April) at this point you have to turn right or (a right turn takes you to Tamarindo) turn left and a few hundred yard up the road turn right following signs to Playa Junquillal and Paraiso.You will pass through the small town of Rio Seco, (Now is when the fun starts, No more paved Roads, it gets a little bumpy for the rest of the trip.), there will be a turn off on your left with a sign saying to Marbella, Ostinal, Lagarto, The Sanctuary, turn left (24 km to go) and follow the sign to Largarto and Marbella (about 1 Mile up the road make sure you do NOT take a left fork in the road saying to Florida). Okay you are getting close, You will pass through the small fishing village of Largarto, and soon will pass through the small town of Marbella (Be careful, believe it or not the town has 2 speed bumps in the road, One entering the town and one 100 yards up, leaving the town. About 2.5 Miles up the road look for the sign saying The Sanctuary and turn right ( If you get to the town San Juanillo, You passed us) Continue down the road till you see the entrance make a right and make a right and make your second left.

Tamarindo Airport
Take Hwy 155 towards Santa Rosa and Belen. At Belen turn right onto Hwy 21 towards Santa Cruz.(Approx. 20 minutes)Just before entering Santa Cruz (before a small bridge) turn right towards Playa Junquilla & Playa Tamarindo (Hwy 160). Look for directional signs for The Sanctuary every 5-8 kilometers. At the Y in the road turn left towards Viensiete de Abril and Junquillal. (You are now on the dirt road) go 500 yards; turn right towards Junquillal & Rio Secco.Once you reach Rio Secco,go 1 km more and look for exit towards Marbella, Ostinal and The Sanctuary.Turn left crossing a small bridge and continue towards Marbella; just over 4 km. past Marbella is the entrance to The Sanctuary Resort on the right.
